Southern Brazil and southwestern Mato Grosso do Sul are under a yellow alert for storms.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a series of yellow level alerts (potential danger) for storms and heavy rains affecting the Southern Region of Brazil and the southwest of Mato Grosso do Sul between this Friday (24) and Saturday (25). The unstable conditions should cause rainfall volumes between 20 and 50 millimeters per day, winds of up to 60 km/h and, in some places, hail.

The storm warning is valid from 3pm to 11:59pm on Saturday (25) and covers areas of Paraná, southwest and east of Mato Grosso do Sul and part of the interior of São Paulo, including Presidente Prudente. Inmet highlights that there is a low risk of power outages, damage to crops, falling tree branches and localized flooding.

Heavy rain warnings remain in effect across much of the Southern Region since the early hours of this Friday (24), extending until the end of Saturday (26). Areas at risk include the West and South of Santa Catarina, the Itajaí Valley, Greater Florianópolis, the Center and North of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as parts of Paraná, such as the South-Central, Southeast and West of the state.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the instability began on Friday morning (24), with forecasts of moderate rain and winds between 40 and 60 km/h, especially in the Southwest, Central-West and Northwest regions. The risk is considered low, but Inmet recommends attention to flooding and electrical discharges.
