The Imea (Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics) released a report providing updates on the corn harvest in the state. The survey highlights that the demand for corn in the 2024/25 harvest is expected to fall by 0.46% compared to the projection in November 2025, reaching 53.72 million tons.
“This reduction is based on the monthly decrease of 1.37% in export projections for the current season, which is estimated at 27.70 million tons. This decline in the export estimate is driven by the expectation of a greater supply of corn in the world market, which has put pressure on export parity prices,” explain the Imea technicians.
Domestic consumption of the cereal was projected at 17.72 million tons in December 2025, representing an increase of 0.76% compared to the projection in November, and is 8.62% higher than the previous season.
"This growth is mainly driven by the increase in corn consumption for ethanol production in the state, which grew by 13,09% compared to the previous harvest," the publication points out.

The report released this week also indicated that the price of available corn in Mato Grosso closed the last week with an average of R$ 46.88 per sack, a decrease of 0.91%. A scenario of decline had not been seen since the last week of September 2025.
"This weekly decline is driven by monitoring corn prices on the CME-Group current contract, which showed a decrease of 0.38% compared to the previous week, closing at an average of US$ 4.29/bu. This downward movement in Chicago is influenced by the ample supply of the cereal and the high US stocks," report the Institute's technicians.
Compared to the same period last year, the price of available corn in Mato Grosso is 15.55% lower. "This reduction is mainly explained by the 17.06% increase in state production for the 24/25 harvest, which reached 55.43 million tons, increasing domestic availability and putting downward pressure on prices in the state. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the growth in corn consumption for ethanol production in the state has helped to contain even greater price drops."
