The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA) has made progress in qualifying the national fishing fleet for export. At the end of this year, three vessels successfully completed the Official Certificate of Conformity process, joining the list of boats authorized to supply fish to demanding international markets, such as the European Union and the United Kingdom.
The certification was conducted by the Department of the Fish Industry (DIP/SNPI), in accordance with the MPA Ordinance No. 75, dated May 26, 2023, amended by MPA Ordinance No. 340, dated August 26, 2024. The processes began in the second half of 2025 and followed a rigorous technical procedure, with support from National Platform for the Fish Industry (PNIP).
During the initial phase, non-conformities were identified, resulting in the development of action plans by the vessels. The adjustments made were subsequently verified through evidence presented by the responsible technicians. The use of the PNIP application ensured greater speed and reliability in the initial on-site verifications carried out by the DIP/SNPI technical team.
After the outstanding issues were resolved, the MPA's technical area analyzed the processes, approved the requests, and issued the certifications. With the update, the number of primary vessels authorized to join the export chain to the European Union and the United Kingdom increased from seven to ten.
According to the director of the Department of Fish Industry, José Luis Vargas, the new certifications reflect the productive sector's commitment to international requirements. “In 2026, Brazil will undergo an audit by the European Union, and only certified vessels will be able to supply fish to that market. Negotiations with the United Kingdom are ongoing, and we expect progress soon,” he stated.
Vargas also highlighted that the MPA's goal for 2026 is to increase the number of certified vessels. "The Ministry calls on the productive sector to begin its certification processes.
