Beef from Mato Grosso will reach more than 90 countries by 2025.

Beef from Mato Grosso reached more than 90 countries in 2025. According to the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), 978,400 tons of the protein were exported, generating revenue of US$4.1 billion, consolidating the state as one of the main global players in the sector.

In a historic year, in which Mato Grosso broke its own record for beef exports, 7.4 million head of cattle were slaughtered. With a product that is increasingly competitive in the international market, the state has benefited both from the opening of new markets, such as Morocco in 2024, and from the growth in demand from already consolidated markets, especially in Asia.

According to Bruno de Jesus Andrade, Project Director at the Mato Grosso Institute of Meat (Imac), the numbers reflect consistent work across the entire production chain. “Mato Grosso is reaping the rewards of years of investment in animal health, quality, and professionalization of livestock farming. We are prepared to meet increasingly demanding markets with volume, efficiency, and responsibility.”

China remains the largest buyer of beef from Mato Grosso, importing 536,900 tons of the protein in 2025, which corresponds to 54.81% of the total exported. Russia comes in second place, with 58,800 tons, representing 61% of the state's foreign sales.

The list of the ten countries that imported the most beef from Mato Grosso in 2025 also includes Chile, the United States, the Philippines, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, and the Netherlands, demonstrating the diversification of destinations and the presence of Mato Grosso's beef in strategic markets in Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, and Asia.

According to the director of Imac, the trend is for this growth rate to continue. “Diversifying markets is fundamental to providing security to the sector. The more destinations opened, the less dependence and the greater the stability for the producer, for the industry, and for the state's economy.”

Looking ahead to 2026, the outlook remains positive, driven especially by the opening of new markets, such as Guatemala in December. With approximately 18 million inhabitants, the Central American country has been increasing its demand for beef protein, which reinforces the potential for expansion of Mato Grosso's exports in the coming years and consolidates Mato Grosso as a world leader in beef production.
