The 23rd APA Congress on Egg Production and Marketing was officially opened on Tuesday (10), in Limeira (SP), bringing together producers, experts, companies and authorities to discuss the challenges and opportunities of egg production in Brazil. Promoted by the Paulista Poultry Association (APA) and supported by the Agricultural Defense of the State of São Paulo (Defesa), the meeting highlights topics such as biosecurity, technological innovation, sustainability, market and exports.

At the opening of the event, the president of APA, Érico Pozzer, emphasized the economic and social importance of poultry farming for the country and highlighted the sector's role in providing affordable protein to the population. “Our activity is extremely necessary and plays an important social role. We produce proteins with great accessibility and we need to continue working to maintain excellent products for both the domestic market and for export,” he stated.
During the ceremony, Rogério Iuspa, master of ceremonies and member of the organizing committee, introduced veterinarian and producer Josimário Gomes Florêncio, from Caruaru (PE), as honorary president of this edition of the congress. In thanking for the honor, Florêncio highlighted the event's relevance to the technical strengthening of the activity. “For me, this is the largest and most important stage for commercial egg production in Latin America. It is an honor to represent Brazilian egg producers at this congress,” he emphasized.

He also highlighted the event's role in scientific knowledge for the sector's development. “This congress fulfills something fundamental: science. We need everyone to come here and leave enriched with science, because that's what strengthens our activity,” he mentioned, advocating for the expansion of Brazil's presence in the international market. “Brazil needs to increase its participation in exports. Brazilian egg production can no longer be confined to Brazil alone,” he emphasized.
Following the opening ceremony, a plaque was presented to Professor Dr. Evandro de Abreu Fernandes in recognition of his professionalism and dedication to the development of Brazilian poultry farming.
Originally from Minas Gerais and a veterinarian by training, Professor Evandro has built a solid career in the sector, with a distinguished career in the development of poultry production. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions, served as production director, and contributed to the growth and consolidation of the activity on the national scene. Currently, he continues to work as a consultant, sharing his experience and strategic vision with the poultry sector.

Henrique Barrochelo highlighted the importance of the congress for the dissemination of technical knowledge and for strengthening agricultural production. “Events like this allow us to expand technical knowledge and strengthen the activity. Brazilian agriculture demonstrates that it is possible to produce with efficiency, quality, and environmental responsibility,” he emphasized.
The superintendent of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) in São Paulo, Estanislau Steck, highlighted the federal government's commitment to supporting producers and strengthening Brazilian agriculture. According to him, the ministry's actions aim to create conditions for the sector to continue expanding, especially through the opening of new international markets. "It's important that the government is on the producer's side. As they say in the countryside, if the government doesn't get in the way, the Brazilian producer makes it happen," he mentioned.
The director of the Department of Inspection of Products of Animal Origin (DIPOA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), Juliana Satie Becker de Carvalho Chino, highlighted the international recognition of the Brazilian sanitary system. “Brazil continues to be a true island of credibility and sanitary safety. The president of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Ricardo Santin, also highlighted the importance of the dedication of the technical teams and the joint work between the private sector and the government. “What we are demonstrating to the world is that Brazil is prepared to grow. Our secret is simple: dedication and work to maintain the country's sanitary status,” he emphasized.
According to him, the supply chain represented by the organization, which covers the egg, chicken, and pork sectors, involves approximately four million people directly and indirectly in the country.
Concluding the opening remarks, Roberto Betancourt, director of Deagro/Fiesp, president of Sindirações and FeedLatina, and vice-president of IFIF, highlighted the potential of Brazilian agribusiness. “Brazil has extraordinary potential in the production of food and animal protein. Poultry farming is a unique sector that has grown based on serious work, research, and entrepreneurship,” he stated.
