The State Agency for Animal and Plant Health Defense (Iagro) has opened a public consultation to discuss the control and monitoring of Salmonella bacteria in commercial broiler poultry farms in the state. The initiative aims to support the development of a regulatory act focused on strengthening poultry health.
Public consultation no. 001/2026 allows producers, veterinarians, laboratories, and other members of the production chain to submit suggestions, criticisms, and contributions until March 19th.
Focus on broiler chicken farms
The process is aimed at commercial poultry farms focused on broiler production, a strategic segment for the economy of Mato Grosso do Sul and for national animal protein production.
The proposal calls for the definition of guidelines for the control of Salmonella, a bacterium associated with production losses on farms and risks to public health when not properly monitored.
According to Iagro's CEO, Daniel Ingold, the initiative aims to strengthen the sector's competitiveness.
"Poultry health is an essential pillar for the competitiveness and sustainability of this production chain."

Contributions must be submitted via an electronic form provided by the state government. Complete documentation with guidelines and technical criteria is available on the official Iagro website.

Salmonella control is considered one of the main pillars of biosecurity in modern poultry farming, being essential to guarantee: With the future regulation, Mato Grosso do Sul intends to strengthen its sanitary defense system and reduce the risks of the bacteria spreading in commercial flocks.
